Summer at the Lake

 Summer at the Lake

Sharing some pics of our summer at our lakehouse cottage....

Spending Time on the Water!
As always, swimming is the best way to stay cool!
Our dogs love the boat rides!! (Blankets mandatory.)
Family gatherings
 Swimming and kayaking
 Hubby kayaking on the lake.

Enjoying campfires and food!
S'mores, of course
Fresh strawberries for dessert!

 Projects
i made a new sign for our porch/entrance.
Hubby is a BIG rock collector...this year he added these giant rocks as landscape around our yard lighthouse.
Hubby built a new table for our pontoon boat!
I love how he customized the cup-holders to hold our favorite cups.

Gardening is a favorite pastime.
 Our back patio and pergola.
Our Wisteria had lots of blooms!
Many annuals in our baskets and pots.
 My mini-fairy garden...with a camping/fishing theme.
 My mini-flag says it all!

Change Is In The Air!

Change in life is inevitable. Things come and go, and nothing really stays the same too long. One thing that is still the same, though is the lovely atmosphere at our home on the lake.
Cairn Cottage, our little piece of paradise, continues to be a place of peace, relaxation, and comfort...
Activity on the lake has been up. Speedboats, pontoons, and even sailboarders have been seen on a regular basis.
As always, jet-skiing is a very popular lake activity.
We had lots of rain in June and most of July, which caused our water levels to rise significantly.
In the past few months, we have been through some difficult changes. My step-father passed away and my mom has not only been suffering from severe depression, but her dementia has increased. Because of this, I have spent much more time with her and having her come to visit at our house has been a welcome respite on some of the most difficult days.
She loves to sit and watch the boats go by or even go out in our pontoon with my hubby and me to go fishing.
Another change that we are currently in the process of doing is helping our son move. He has lived in southern Indiana for the past 3 years. A few weeks ago, he got a job offer up in Michigan but has not found housing there, yet. Since he needed to be out of his apartment last week, we have temporarily been moving his stuff into our house and garage and this week he will be coming home to stay with us until he finds housing..
In spite of all the changes, I have had the opportunity to find a few lake signs....yes, I really like lake signs! Here are a couple I recently purchased:

I love the one above, especially since the name of our lake is "Dewart" lake.!
A couple other signs I'd love to get eventually are below. I found them online. They describe lake life so well!

Wishing you a relaxing week ahead, whether you are on or off the lake!
Wishing you

Weekend in Review!

Just had to share a few pictures that I snapped this past weekend...
We went to a wedding of the daughter of a good friend on Saturday.
Friends for more than 45 years!!
My friend's daughter and her new hubby. What a fun day!!
My friend's newborn grandson, Abraham. Her oldest child just became a dad a few weeks ago!! So sweet!!
And on Sunday, we went fishing with my 78 year-old mom. She taught me to fish when I was young and did the same for my son when he was just a toddler!!!
Mom, with a bluegill.
My hubby also caught a small Catfish.
I'm so thankful for the blessings of each day!!!
May you have a wonderful week ahead!!
And may you have

My Cottage in July

July is here (I know, we are actually half-way thru the month already. Wow! Where does the time go?)
I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend! We had family over for a BBQ cookout and to see fireworks on the lake.
We grilled hotdogs and also served pulled pork near the waterfront.
My flag welcomed guests to "our pad".

Even though the 4th of July is past, I decided to leave my patriotic decor up for the rest of the month.
On the front step. . . my yellow potted Asiatic Lilies are in full bloom.

On the sun porch, I still have a few patriotic things on display...like these Japanese lanterns.

My red star hangs in the window, while my photo of the Bald Eagle that lives on our lake sits framed on a pedestal table.
Of course, my favorite pillows fill the futon sofa and my patriotic heirloom quilt drapes the back.

I still love displaying my "beachy" decor, like these window items. . . a stained glass sailboat(I made at our local pottery store) and a sitting pelican I got in Florida many moons ago.
On a side table sets some more beach decor.

Hope you are all enjoying July. May your summer be full of beautiful days and fun times.

Our two Chi's~ Sophie and Jet

Hello, all you Cairn Cottage bloggy friends!
It's another sub-zero January day here. So, I'm just trying to keep warm and write some more blog posts in my warm little lakeside cottage. I just finished this post on my little furry four-legged family members and wanted to share it with you. Hope you have a cozy cottage day!

Dogs play many roles in our lives--family member, friend helper, defender and, from time to time, psychiatrist. Anyone who has ever felt the familiar warm heartbeat at their feet knows that canine friends offer pure unconditional love and loyalty.
Our two Chihuahuas are all these things and so much more!
Sophie and Jet, our four-legged family members.

Jet, the oldest boy,  born Oct. 25, 2006.
He is a short-haired Chihuahua.
As the big "brother" he is more reserved and serious.

He seems to pose for many of the pictures I took of him. I love this one!!

An autumn picture.

Jet is so small (4 lbs) that he almost fades into the chair.

The many faces of Jet.

Sophie, the baby girl, born Sept. 5, 2010
Weighing in at a whopping 3 lbs, she is a long-haired Chihuahua.

I love this picture of Sophie, as a puppy, sitting on my son's shoulder.

Always full of energy, Sophie is the adventurous one!

She loves to run in the Summer sun, but hates the cold winds of winter.

The many faces of Sophie.

Even though they weren't too thrilled, I did dress them up for Halloween a time or two!

The dogs on an adventure.

Getting tired, after a long walk and adventure.
Time for a nap!

Bike rides are fun, too!!!

Dressed up in warm sweaters on a cold, snowy day!

Sophie's first experience with snow.
Jet, hates the snow and wants to go inside.

Big brother and little sis, best friends!

They get Christmas stockings, too!

Jet loves boat rides in the summertime. Sophie prefers hiding under the dashboard.

Our doggies even go on vacations with us. Christmas, 2012 at Folly Beach, S.C.
