What's In My Closet: Winter Fashion

Hi, friends!
Well, it's the first day of December and even though we don't have snow here in Indiana, it does feel like winter has arrived.
We did get a little bit of sunshine on and off today, as seen in some pics of the lake...

I decided to take advantage as much as possible, as you never know what tomorrow's weather will be here in Indiana...
So, I am sharing a few new and some older outfits that I am wearing in the cooler weather.(A few of my pics were out of focus, for some reason. But you get the gist of what I wore.)

Outfit #1
I love red and gray together. This outfit is awesome for the upcoming Christmas season.
The plaid tartan scarf was originally a throw, which keeps me toasty warm when a chill is in the air.
Also, loving my snowflake sweater. It goes well with the flowering Hibiscus growing on my sun porch!!
A little fur on the hood adds to the fun!

Outfit #2
More gray (with black and white) adds a twist of monochrome to this outfit. I can wear my over-the-knee boots turned down, as pictured above, or all the way up, as shown below...
A large statement necklace brings more depth to the outfit...

Outfit #3
Burgundy is another favorite color this year for me.
Along with leggings, this mini dress is perfect for a lunch with a friend or dinner with the hubby.
I love the two tone floral and leaf design!
A pair of warm fuzzy socks and black slip-ons completes the ensemble.

Outfit #4
I am finding that leggings(especially ones with patterns) are drawing me in this year...the southwest pattern above adds lots of color, when coordinated with my off-white cable knit oversized sweater.
To match the color coordination, I wore multi-colored dangle earrings...one of a few new earrings recently purchased(Oh, by the way. I recently had my ears pierced, something I've been wanting to do. I had pierced ears back in high school, but let them grow shut in my 30's.)
Colorful rings are another new fun accessory I've been loving lately!!
Finally, I have had these tan ankle boots for years, but wanted to turn them into a "Boho" style. Here, I've added burlap, lace, and bangles to my boots and I absolutely love them!!!

Well, I hope you all are enjoying the cooler seasons!! I have a feeling we won't be having many more sunny days like this in the winter!!

What's In My Closet: Winter Is Here!

Yep! I can officially say winter is here in the Midwest in all of it's {freezing, icy, windblown, snow-covered} splendour!!
We actually had it pretty good for awhile, as autumn seemed to hang on throughout all of November and December. I think we had one snowfall where the snow actually stuck to the ground.
But, we knew the warmspell would not last forever. And, boy oh boy, were we right!
This past week hit us hard with blizzard-like white-outs and below freezing temps.

Time to pull out the oversized sweaters, winter boots, gloves, hats, and scarves ~ and don't forget the long underwear! :) I recently stopped working and am a full-time homemaker and care-giver for my mom. So, as you will notice, my outfits are more casual.
I really love plaid flannel! This basic black and white checked top, over a black turtle neck sweater, with stretch jeans and my basic black boots are a comfortable and stylish combo.

Gray is also a color I am drawn to. This sweat out fit came from TJ Maxx. A warm top with appliqued desgn is layered over a long white tank. The sweat pants are two-toned, gray in the front and black in the back.

Combined with my striped leg-warmers and combat boots, I'm sure to keep warm this winter!

I also love this necklace with beading and southwest silver pieces.

A close-up of the sweat pants shows the cable design on the front panel of the pants, which is an added favorite.

Here is a close-up of my boots, showing the upper flap turned down. I can also lace it all the way up, if I choose.

Another find at TJ Maxx was this cute "Life is Good" Sweatshirt. Combined with stretch jeans and my black suede booties, I am sure to stay cozy on cold winter days.

A close-up reveals the design on the front of the sweatshirt. I am a big fan of Life is Good brand merchandise and what it stands for. Click on the icon below.

I am wearing another "Life is Good" long-sleeve tee under the sweatshirt, also purchased at TJ Maxx.

I have had my suede black booties for several years. I love wearing them with my thick fuzzy socks.
I love just wearing my fuzzy socks around the house, too.

I also wanted to share a cute pink scarf, gray and white pompm hat, and gray "fingerless" mittens that I like with this outfit. Today, it was 9 degrees out and snowing. In this weather, you can never have enough of these items!

Most of my outfits have been casual. This sweater and skirt is one that is a little dressier.

The sweater is made of the softest yarn I have ever felt. The skirt feels like thick wool, but softer, without the itchy feel. I also am wearing a striped scarf with matching hat and gloves.

A slit in the back allows me more movement. The sweater also is hooded.

I recently got a great deal on these two-tone books(End of the season sale) at Carsons.http://www.carsons.com/

Hope you all are staying warm and cozy, no matter where you live and what weather you are having!!
Have a blessed winter!!

BUNDLE UP! My Favorite Subzero Winter Attire

Winter has hit our area, full-force! This time of year, I'm always reminded that, especially in the below 0 Fahrenheit temps, we need to bundle up, with extra layers!!
I love this article on dressing for winter!

With the suggestions made in the article, I want to share what I love to wear in this freezing winter weather:
1. A thick coat
A good coat is the most important thing any(one) can own. . Additionally, a hood on the coat is beneficial when trying to stay warm.
On the coldest days, my outdoor attire - A fur-lined suede coat(it must weigh over 10lbs!!), Sherpa-lined boots, corduroy leggings, leg-warmers, fur-lined gloves, and knit scarf/hat. I also own a pair of snow(ski) pants, if I need to ever walk through the foot-high snow drifts!

2. A scarf (I love to wear in a variety of ways)
Scarves do not just have to be fashion accessories — a scarf is a good way to cover up exposed necks and stay snug during the colder months.

3. Gloves
Sometimes, it’s necessary to carry things in the cold and pockets will do no good. To keep hands from turning into popsicles, invest in a good pair of gloves.
My gloves and combination scarf/hat.

4. Ear muffs/winter hat
For people with coats that lack hoods, ear muffs or a winter hat are necessary to keep ears warm. Winter hats, ear muffs and even thick headbands come in a vast variety of styles that are sure to satisfy anyone’s tastes.
5. Winter boots
A pair of boots with a warm lining can go a long way in keeping feet toasty. Additionally, it is better to have a pair of boots when sloshing through wet snow compared to any other type of shoe.
I have an assortment of snow-proof, lined, winter boots for different occasions.!

6. Thick socks(and leggings with leg-warmers)
Having a thick pair of socks goes hand-in-hand with wearing warm boots. A good option are wool socks, although it is imperative to make sure they are not so thick that they don’t fit in the boot.
I love long, thick winter socks!(I even wear them around the house.)

Additionally, I love leg-warmers! Below are my ankle boots, worn with leg-warmers over the top.

7. (Bulky)Sweaters/layers
Even if somebody has all of the above, it is essential to have sweaters and layers on hand to actively combat the cold weather. These layers could come in the form of thermal shirts, leggings or long underwear.
These are a few of my favorite warm, cozy sweaters!
8. Hand warmers(Hmm...I don't have any, but great idea)
Hand warmers are air-activated heat packs that can fit inside pockets. For anyone who spends a significant amount of time outside, these are a great way of having a safe and concentrated heat source.

My own added faves:

9.  Vests
My favorite warm, fuzzy vest!
(This thermal shirt has extra long sleeves with thumb holes in the cuff.)

I also shared a black and gray vest in my last "What's in My Closet" post. It is lined with fur, as well! I wear it often.

10. The Blanket/Poncho  - I love these, and I will be sharing my 'blanket' outfits in a future post.

For everyone who also has been experiencing this polar weather, stay warm!!
And dress appropriately, when you go out and brave the cold.
