Something Fishy Tablescape

Welcome, Cairn Cottage Friends!
Here we are already at the end of August! Where does the time go?
Being that we live on a lake, I love to collect "fish" decor. I also love to decorate with the color blue.
As you can tell below, I decided to share some of my "fish" items in this nautical-themed tablescape.

This fish serving platter is my centerpiece and a favorite find. I had a similar plate years ago that got broken and had been looking for another one ever since. I found this at one of my favorite stores, T.J. Maxx.
These little wooden fish and fish basket were a garage sale find, of which my hubby purchased with many other "lake-themed" decor items one day while driving home from work. I love the rough, old look of the faded painted wood.
Of course, my collection of tea(or coffee) cups never ends. This whimsical fish cup caught my eye, too!
Sea turtles, starfish, and seashells surround two other matching teacups I recently collected.(Here is one of those cups)
My white seashell and starfish cup and saucer have been a part of my collection for a few years. I think it is so unique and goes well with my nautical theme.
I also came across these nautical plates at T.J. Maxx several months ago and couldn't pass them up.
The tableclothe, matching napkins (in my clear water glasses) and blue and white nautical placemats were all purchased in the sale isle at Meijer. Talk about hitting the lottery!!
I couldn't have found a more perfect color coordinated, nautical-themed display of items! It just makes me wonder if something "fishy" is going on...LOL!
I may just have to serve fish for dinner!!

An Upside Down Christmas

It’s December 24th, Christmas Eve, and it’s just me and the hubs here at home.  We thought our son would possibly show up, as he had told us he would, sometime today. But, so far, no son. So, we may or may not see him.

This year has been what I can only describe as an “upside down” Christmas. Nothing has been “normal” this year. Because of our ongoing remodeling, we just never got the decorations out of storage. Instead, I decided to try something different...an upside down Christmas tree...how appropriate!! I also have always wanted a white tree to decorate all nautical. So, here is my nautical upside-down tree.

I thought I would also share our guest bedroom that is over the garage, as I had promised a few months ago. Here is the stairway from our garage door entrance.
An antique life preserver and mermaid welcome guests.
At the top of the stairs is a desk and chair. It's also where the tree is hung, as well as a fishnet-covered wall, with my hubby's wonderful collection of lures, signs, and other nautical ityems.

Along another wall is my curio cabinet, where many of my tea collection is stored. I decided to decorate with some of my smaller Christms items that weren't in storage.
On the opposite side of the room is the guest bed, with a cottage quilt hung on the wall, as well as two buoys...which we got on our trip to Maine last summer.
The hubby hung the handmade wooden buoys on some dock cleats (which are used to tie boats to). The pedestal table is an antique hand-carved family heirloom.
My hubby, who is a garage sale addict, got lots of nautical signs and decor last summer.
The painted oar was another discount find and the map and boat bell (next picture down) were other items purchased in Maine.
Close-up of some of the nautical tree decor.
Some of them I made myself, like the bobber snowman and the blue glass float (a glass ornament, covered with twine). I also made some fun signs, printed on wood and glass balls...
The other room I always decorate for the season...my dining room.
 Mmmmm...chocolate!
And, if there's time, a cup of coffee, tea, or hot cocoa!
This Christmas coaster is one of four that I've had for many years.
And lots of candles! I love candles at Christmas!
May you have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Joyful Christmas Day!!(We just got word that our son is on his way...so it will be a nice Christmas for us, as well!)

My Favorite Spots to Relax -- Part 1 (Indoors)

I think I may have done a post on this subject before, but the spots around my house that I love to go relax are always changing, even if the changes are small.
In this post, I want to share some pics from my favorite room I love to relax in, especially in the warmer months....

My Sun Porch!
This is where I love to bring my laptop and books and read and write, to my heart's content.(Of course, my canine friends follow me there.)

I love when the outside temps are not so hot and humid, so that I open the windows and feel a cool breeze and hear the sounds of lake activity and birds singing.

Some decorative items in this space I've shared before, but have since rearranged them into different "vignettes" around the room. Here is one with my fish plate, nautical teapot, and seahorse candle holder. I set them on a small table, covered with some beautiful blue and green patterned fabric I found at Walmart.

There are also a few "new" items that I want to share. This small wicker fish basket was an item purchased at a flea market we visited. It's perfect for storing small items and adds to the room's lakehouse theme.

I also found this lamp, with a clear glass base, filled with seashells. The painted glass lampshade wasn't originally a part of this lamp (it's actually a candle cover made by Yankee Candles), but my hubby did some adjusting, so that it fit nicely on this lamp. I love how the lighthouse design matches our lighthouse border on our walls!

Along another wall are a wicker chair with matching ottoman, a shelf of seashells, and a wood hook rack that says, "Lake Gear".

Here is a close-up of the shelf. Below it is a plaque with different nautical knots, a miniature ship, life preserver, and lighthouse.

As you can imagine, on a warm summer day, this is where you will be sure to find me!

SIGNS
One thing you'll find a lot of around my house, including on my sunporch, are signs. Whether it's intentional or unintentional (I have several that are gifts from friends.) I seem to have lots of them. Check them out!

Then, there are the "silly" signs. I like to have a little sense of humor, here and there.

This is one of my favorite signs. It says it all!

Hop on over to "Part 2 of "My Favorite Spots", for a view of my most cherished outside spots I love to relax.
