What's In My Closet: Autumn Outdoor Wear

Welcome to another post of
What's In My Closet?

Autumn is definitely here and that means it's time to bring out all the snuggly warm sweaters, knit scarves, and have plenty of layers. The past few weeks have been especially unpredictable...one day is cold and rainy, the next warm and sunny.
This year I find myself being drawn to a few styles, most of which are very casual. You see, I am now in the process of being a full-time homemaker. Fall Projects/More Autumn Pictures

Hello, Friends!!
I’m back once again with some more fall pictures. It sure seems like fall has lasted longer and later in the season and I keep finding beautiful things to take pictures of.
From gorgeous sunrises over the lake...
... to fall colors on our trees.
I love taking close-ups of the intricate nature of each leaf...

...Then there's the annual migration of the Coots. With cooler temps starting up, they have been feeding right out front of our cottage.

It’s been quite a crazy few weeks here at Cairn Cottage, too. We have had to go through some difficult situations – the passing of my father-in-law, as well as getting ready to soon step down from my job at my church.
But throughout it all, we have continued to keep ourselves busy.

My mom stopped out for a visit and threw out a line. No lucky catch that day, though.
...While she enjoyed the quiet lake view, hubby and I started one of our projects.
... I glued the stones as hubby positioned them on top of one another.
Some of the stones had to be cut to fit.
The completed project!
A stone bench, which has to have a wood seat attached yet, was also completed. (It will be a great spot for keeping warm by the fire pit.)
Today, we completed part 2 of a project we actually started in July... a fence to keep our little doggies in the yard. Of course, hubby added some of his rocks for beauty and effect.
Here is a picture of the area that he also landscaped long ago with more of his rocks.
...As the sun set this evening, we saw the moonrise. A beautiful orange glow on the autumn trees was breathtaking!!
After such beautiful weather and views, all I can say is this...

May you have a wonderful week ahead!

Decorating For Fall Around the Cottage

It’s so hard to believe that fall is actually on its way and summer is sizzling slowly away….
The hubby and I have been working hard on a final outdoor project, our lakeside patio. It has been cracked and multi-colored for years.
We finally stained it all one color and added a rug to go under our outdoor dining table. We hope to also add stone seating around the firepit and some decorative stone edging. Lastly, we plan on purchasing a pergola to surround the dining area. (I'm not sure if we will have time to get it all done before the cold weather hits, but we sure are going to try.)
Now, the leaves on our maple and oak trees haven’t turned color, yet. But the cooler evenings and shorter daylight hours will soon change that.
As I sadly say goodbye to sweet summer, I once again look to my décor with the colorful oranges, yellows, and reds.

Mums are some of my favorite fall flowers…this year, I chose burgundy red.
But last year's yellow mums are still a favorite!
My ceramic owl showed his saucer-sized eyes, once again, as well. Here, he sits in a nest of bright leaves.
A new door hanging reminds all who enter to give thanks...
I also added the autumn feel to the dining room, one of my favorite rooms to decorate.

Sunflowers are a must!! This bouquet in my matching pitcher brighten the whole room...
A centerpiece, filled with candles, leaves, and mini-pumpkins continue the autumn allure.
When candles are lit (or turned on, as the two end candles are battery-operated) the room takes on a glowing ambience.

The table runner that I recently purchased reminds me of all the wonderful things I look forward to when Autumn arrives.
Orange pumpkin dessert plates atop my red napkins and two-toned dinner plates.
I still love to display a few of the tables-setting spots with leaf and words dessert plates, as well....like this one that says "blessings".
And of course, the ole' pumpkin teapot must also be set...

Do you have some favorite fall décor that you love to bring out this time of year?

Wishing you
