Easter Tea Table

Happy Easter Everyone!!
It’s hard to believe that the Easter season is upon us!! But, I am definitely ready…especially for Spring to arrive!! We’ve had a pretty cold and dreary winter. I had been planning on sharing my Easter tea table setting for a while, but once again, have just not found the time. So, today(the day before Easter Sunday), I decided to have a little tea and some desserts that I purchased at a local bakery
Because (to me) Easter is, first and foremost, about Christ's death on the cross and His ressurection from the grave, I wanted to emphasize this in my theme.

With a little moss covered styrofoam, some rocks and sticks, I made this simple centerpiece. (I first got the idea off of Pinterest, but made some changes to make it quick and simple to put together-about an hour to complete)
 Here is my pastel tablesetting.
Each place setting has a different teacup and matching plates.

Of course, I always have to share the lake view through my dining room window.

Today, I am serving three different desserts with my tea. In front- lemon tea cakes; to the left-mini cranberry scones; to the right-peanut butter no-bake cookies.
Tea is being served in a new white "Tl Mulino" teapot, I purchased a T.J. Maxx. I love that it is a large capacity (8 cups) teapot.
I also have my ceramic Easter bunnies and bird (not shown) back, as well as my egg cups. This year, instead of Easter eggs, I added some small flowers in the egg cups.

May you have a joyous Easter
and a happy Spring!!!

Blessings, Ann

Bathroom Remodel...FINISHED!!

I am so thrilled to say that our bathroom remodel is finished!! Yay!!!
We started back in September of 2014. We did almost all of the work ourselves, so it did take awhile, since Ken and I both still have jobs we go to. There were many challenges along the way - old wiring, bad toilet, falling tiles, just to name a few.
Also, having a messy area in or near the bathroom was not easy, but now that it's done, I am going on a full-out "Spring" cleaning!!
If you want to see some "before and during remodel" Pictures go HERE.
Below are pictures of the finished bathroom...
Everything in the room is brand new!!
I love our new cabinets above the toilet and laundry basket!
We used Fasade Faux Metal Panels above.
Here is the new sink area...double sinks, lights, and mirrors.
I made this shell display myself. (Purchased the window box at TJ Maxx.)
Here is a view with the vanity lights turned off and ceiling light on. The ceiling light has a dimmer switch, so when taking a luxurious bath, the lights can be turned down.
This "towel holder" is actually a wine rack...I got this idea on Pinterest and loved it!!
There is also a place for washcloths on the wall below the cabinets.
I love my seashell rug!!
The new tile, above the tub.

I am SO happy with our new bathroom!! Now, we can really enjoy it every day!!

Bathroom Remodel- First Photos

It's been 4 months since we began our downstairs bathroom remodeling.(Pretty much a complete make-over, since it looks to me like it hadn't been touched since the 70s or 80s) I have been taking pictures of the process, now and then, and was waiting to show you the slow, but great transformation we are making to this room. Since we have done everything ourselves, it has been a long process...

Removing the old shower
 Cutting out the the wall.
Taking doors off of old dark sink fronts to get ready to strip and paint.
What the area looked like, after the shower was removed.
Re-doing all the electrical required tearing open the ceiling and taking out the old medicine cabinet/mirror. Ken also added water-proofing black plastic around the new tub/shower walls.
During all this time, the new jacuzzi tub sat in our living room for over a month, taunting me. :(
Finally, the tub is installed. Also new wood ceiling, light/fan, and cement board in tub area. :)
New sink top (we got double sinks, instead of single, which I'm totally loving!).
Behind the old medicine cabinet was this old pattern on wallboard (not wall paper). I think it dates back to the 1950's.
A storage cabinet was added to the wall above the toilet, to the left below. Also, storage will be added to the area to the right of the new bathtub.
New flooring was added, after removing the old wall-to-wall carpeting...yuck! Cabinets were milk-painted white and new handles put on.

Installing the new tub/shower surround, using 2x4's to put pressure on the drying sides.
That's all for now.
We are putting in the finishing touches and will hopefully soon have a completed bathroom!

More pictures to come....so stop back in soon!

Make Your Own Terra Cotta Lighthouse

Since moving to the lake, I often find myself drawn to beachy and nautical decor. One thing I've thought that would be really cool to have is an outdoor miniature lighthouse, with a working light. I came across some easy-to-make lighthouses on Pinterest that were actually made out of something I had sitting around in our our summer shed. All I needed: 3 terra cotta pots (in different sizes), different colored spray paints, spray-on clear shellack, large-tipped permanent markers, and one solar garden light.
I first taped off the rim of each of the pots and spray painted the rest of the outside of the pots white. After letting them dry and removing the tape, I took and taped(covering large areas with newspaper) up to the rim, and spray-painted the top rim black. Once dry, I used a black marker to draw the door and windows. I then sprayed clear shellack over it all to protect it from the outdoor weather. The stake that came with the solar light fit perfectly into the drainage whole, already in the bottom of the pots.

My finished miniature lighthouse. Below is the view of the light after dark.
Here is a Youtube tutorial I found that is done a bit differently than how I made mine. This made me chuckle a little, though. No project is ever perfect. And there are always little glitches, when making something new. The gal in this video(and her husband, who filmed it) definitely were down to earth about this fact.

As I look out on our lake, off the pier, I know soon it will be cold and the snow will be blowing over the frozen water.
If you love all things nautical, maybe you would like to give this outside project a try. All in all, it was fairly easy and inexpensive. If you are really artistic, you may even like to try painting more detail on the lighthouse, like these, I found on Pinterest.
Do you have a favorite lighthouse? You could easily make a replica with clay pots! See how here: http://www.completely-coastal.com/2013/04/make-clay-pot-lighthouse.html  Recycle Reuse Renew Mother Earth Projects: How to Make a Clay Pot Lighthouse
